CUT / COPY / PASTE

 FOR  WEBTV (2)

In Other Words...

If you had problems understanding the previous page instructions, perhaps this version will help to clear things up.

NOTE: This tutorial is written for the WebTV wireless keyboard.
Wired PC Keyboards usually do not have a Cmd key. On some the Ctrl key will work. Others may have to use the Windows symbol key or Ctrl+Alt keys.

There are two ways you can highlight the text you want to copy. Which one of the two methods you use will depend on whether you want to copy all of the text on page or in a "defined textarea", or if you only want to copy a part of the text on a page. You cannot copy and paste images, only text but you can copy and paste the url of an image stored somewhere on the web and link to it.

METHOD 1: ( For copying an entire page only. )

1. While viewing the page, hold your CMD key and press your A key. The entire page text will highlight (reverse text).

2. Continue holding the CMD key and tap the C key. The highlighted text will be copied into your browser but nothing visable will change.

3. Go to the page where you want to paste the text. This must be a writable page such as your email "Write a Message" or "Reply" page, or a website editor, or other text input page.

4. Place your cursor where you want the pasted text to begin. Hold down your CMD key and tap your V key. The text should now be pasted to the new page.
CAUTION: Just tap the V key. Holding it down will cause the paste function to repeat over and over.

METHOD 2: ( For copying only a part of a page. )

To help explain this, I have copied and pasted the signature codes from one of PandorasBox8's signatures to the bottom of this page in the way it used to appear on her site (They now use an autoactive textarea).

1. Press your find key. Be sure the window in the pop-up is blank, then type in <htmI> just as I've shown it here (all 6 characters) and hit your return key or click on "Find on Page". You will then see that <htm|> in the Codes below is highlighted. On other pages, you would enter the first word of the part you want to copy (or first few words if the first one occures elsewhere on the page before the part you want). If your "find" word or words occures more than once on the page, you can step to the next occurance by using CMD+G or back to the previous occurance by using CMD+B.

2. Hold your shift key and press your cursor-down key or cursor-right key when you have your "find" word highlighted. you will see that the codes are highlighting one line at a time with the down key and one letter at a time with the right key. Stop when you get to the end of the codes at </htmI> and release your shift key. Do not touch your cursor keys after you have released the shift key or the highlighting will dissappear. If you over-run, or go too far with the highlighting, you can continue to hold the shift key and use your cursor-up key or cursor-left key to back up.

3. Now hold your CMD key and tap your C key. The highlighted text will be coppied into your browser but you won't see anything change, just trust that is has been copied.

4. Go to the paste area below the codes, (this will simulate your signature box). Hold down your CMD key and tap your V key. The codes you copied from this page should now appear in the box. You should have now successfully copied and pasted the text. These same methods are used to copy text from one page to another as well.

When you have the above codes highlighted, don't forget to copy them with CMD+C.

Now try pasting them in the box below with CMD+V.

Please note that when ever you change or edit the
contents of your signature box, it is usually neccessary to
Reload your "Write a Messgage" page ( Cmd+R )
before you can see the changes you made.

Did you paste the codes?   YES      NO

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
