THE WAR ON TERROR

ECONOMICS

The events of September 11th have had and are still having a profound effect on the economy in America and this is a cause for some concern to me. The residual effects are rippling down throughout the country and effecting business and the lives of millions of Americans through lost business and jobs. We are having to spend millions of dollars now for the clean-up of the damage, bail outs of the airline industry, and assistance to the victims of Sept. 11th. and our government is now spending more money than they are taking in to cover these expenses. I would like to see our government seize and liquidate the frozen terrorist assets and use the money to pay for these expenses. It's only right that the ones responsible for the damage should pay for it. I have not heard this suggested or even considered by anyone in power but I sure would like to. I have considered writing to the media or my congressman about this and asking if there is any reason why this can't be done but don't really know the right ones to ask. Maybe someone who does will read this and pass it along.

The war against terrorism is being fought on many fronts, financing of terrorists activities is just one of them. Many countries are helping in this effort by freezing bank accounts with known terrorist ties. Saudi Arabia, unfortunately, is not one of them and is continuing to shield terrorist funding from us. There doesn't seem to be much we can do about it as long as we like the oil we get from them. One fourth of our imported oil comes from Saudi Arabia, plus, we have air bases there that we will soon need to use. Why are the Saudi's protecting the terrorists assets? Will they eventually become our targets too? Maybe we better start trading in our gas guzzling SUV's on something more economical to drive. The drivers in the cars behind them would appreciate that allot too.
